Art

Russell Katz is a vibrant, illusive, and random multimedia artist. His coveted mediums are (and not limited to) digital artworks typically executed in print form, modern painting, and sculptural work (buildable Pop art). Katz draws his inspiration from close individuals that surround him and the mundaneness of everyday objects. Working out of a home studio, his process involves surrounding himself with multiple void areas to fill. Katz also incorporates many ideas related to the Modernist movement into his work. His work speaks to those who view art as above the social and observational levels. Katz seeks to breakdown and strip the initial appearance of the work. He then works on reassembling and reconstructing it, whilst simultaneously placing the product within new parameters and spaces. Also relayed within Katz's works are obscured objectives and underlying motifs that speak to his distinctive art style.

What is a sieve if all its pores are sealed? It is a new object. It is now my, it is now a, it is our new vessel of creativity.

Slices of canvas are then applied to the inner frame to continue the third dimension of the lines. Inside of the nook a small brass coloured metal hook is screwed into the top of inner frame. Hanging from the hook is a miniature bindle (otherwise known as a bindlestiff).

Title: Untitled 2, 2021-2022.

Depicting Quote: Whereby money is spent, is whereby money goes.

Artist Statement: Irony is what I meant. This is meant to be very meta. To expand, the purpose of this work is to cackle at the art novices that always think that dollar signs inherently mean artworks are about capitalism.

Title: Retro Fusion Motion, 2021.

Artist Statement: Referencing some of the works of the late Wassily Kandinsky and inspired by the Surrealist automatism movement, this random collection of objects delivers with the use of a multidimensional plain. What at first seems apparent is not always what one perceives. Many of these objects are meant to resemble common ordinary objects that are quasi-familiar to the viewer. The presence of the Googie design style is also payed homage to, as several of the objects possess a futuristic and space age feel. Movement is channeled all over the work as objects are seen to have a path to follow.

©Russell Katz, Plan B. Print on 98 Bright 100-lb cardstock, 8.5 x 11 inches. Property of the artist exclusively.

Title: Plan B, 2021.

Format: Buildable Pop-art.

Artist Statement: The conversation about contraception methods is often prioritized in comparison to the aftermath of a possible situation (scare). The use of these boxes is to add a pinch of normality into the realness of a possible female situation. If everyone has plan b, who is actually taking it? Why does one have to know? The idea of multiplying this object and distributing it makes it a sort of guise that is hidden in plain sight. We ultimately should support humans in any decision in which they think is right (other than if they are causing harm to themselves or others). Wherever you stand or lie on this discussion, respect is ultimately how you will define yourself as a person of a kind nature.

Medium: Print on 98 Bright 100-lb cardstock.

Size: 11 x 8.5 inches
